Community Letter 12-10-2020

December 10, 2020

Dear Silver Valley Families, Staff and Community,

I am writing to you today to provide an update to our post Winter Break plans for our district.  Let me first say how proud I am of our staff and students for the job they’ve done in our Hybrid, Small Cohorts and Distance Learning Models.  We worked hard to establish safety protocols and we will continue to prioritize our implementation to keep our students and staff safe.

Winter break begins on December 19th and ends on January 6th.

ALL Silver Valley Unified School District students will be in Distance Learning from January 7th until January 15th (teachers will be in contact with you on daily schedules).  We have a scheduled holiday (Martin Luther King Jr Day) on January 18th and we will resume our in-person Hybrid Model and Small Group Cohorts on Tuesday, January 19th.  This delay is being implemented out of an abundance of caution because of the holidays.

For all students participating in our Hybrid Model,

please note that for the week of January 19th through the 22nd, B Day students will attend Tuesday and Thursday (like normal) and A Day students will attend Wednesday and Friday.  All following weeks will return to our normal A Day (Mon/Wed) and B Day (Tue/Thur) schedule.

Our return to in-person instruction on January 19th will depend on our local COVID conditions at that time.

We will be monitoring our local data and continue to be in close communication with the County Department of Health to help us make our decision. Right now, we expect to resume on the 19th but we need to be ready in case we need to continue in distance learning.

In conclusion,

I want to thank you for your support and understanding this 1st half of school.  Nothing about this pandemic has been easy but you have shown your resiliency and we have persevered.  It is an honor to serve our community and we are very much looking forward to a great 2nd half of the school year.

Sincerely,

Jesse M Najera
